Transportation Dept. partners with TelenavTrack to track school buses

The Pike County Schools Transportation Department recently partnered with Sprint/NEXTEL and TelenavTrack to put GPS enabled Cell Phones on every school bus. The purpose of the GPS tracking software is to give the Transportation Department the ability to see where every school bus is located at all times. The TelenavTrack software "pings" the cell phone every minute and gives the exact location of the school bus. This software also keeps up with the exact mileage that each school bus travels in a day.

"Safety is always our top priority. TeleNav Track tells us where our school buses are without compromising our students' safety," said Mike Johnson, Director of Transportation. With the GPS technology offered by TeleNav Track, the Transportation Department is able to locate each bus to determine whether it's on schedule and to address parents' questions without interrupting drivers. "We hope this solution will be popular with parents because we will be able to immediately respond to their requests with an exact answer about when a bus will be picking up or dropping off their children."
